After being 8x Tag Team Champions in ECW, Bubba Ray and D-von Dudley came to the WWF in the Fall of 1999, and immediately started a feud with the Acolytes. Then they set their sights on the Hardy Boyz, when they put Jeff Hardy through a table. They lost to the Hardys in a Tag Team Table Match at Royal Rumble 2000, but won the tag team titles from the New Age Outlaws a month later at No Way Out. They wrestled the Hardys and Edge and Christian in a Triple Threat Ladder Match at WrestleMania, but Edge and Christian won the match and the titles. The Dudleys feuded with T & A, as well as Road Dogg and X-pac. They got another chance at the tag team titles in a rematch from WrestleMania in Tables, Ladders and Chairs at SummerSlam, but Edge and Christian again managed to retain the belts. The Dudleys became the target of the RTC, who considered the Dudleys' obsession with putting people through tables to be too violent. They teamed with the Hardy Boyz to beat the RTC and Edge and Christian at the Survivor Series.

The Dudleys regained the tag team titles from Edge and Christian at the 2001 Royal Rumble. They lost the belts to the Hardy Boyz in March, but regained them from Edge and Christian a few weeks later, thanks to help from their half brother Spike. They lost them to Edge and Christian once again in a TLC rematch at WrestleMania X-Seven. The Dudleys started to feud with the Holly Cousins, but when Spike and Molly Holly started to date, the Dudleys decided to teach their brother some tough love and sneak attacked him. They won the tag team titles again from Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit, and it was about that time that WCW, led by Shane McMahon, started to invade the WWF. The Dudleys joined a slew of former ECW stars to turn against the WWF, right after the Dudleys lost the belts to the Acolytes. ECW then merged with WCW to form the Alliance. At Invasion, the Dudleys teamed with Rhyno, DDP and Booker T against Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, the Undertaker, Kane and Chris Jericho. The Alliance team won when Austin turned on the WWF and joined them. The Dudleys won the WWF Tag Team belts from the Undertaker and Kane in September, but lost them to the Rock and Jericho a month later. They rebounded and won the WCW Title from the Hardys, and shortly thereafter the Hardys won the WWF Tag Titles. The Dudleys beat the Hardys in a unification match at Survivor Series, but the Alliance was kicked off of TV after losing in the main event. The Dudleys were retained because of being the tag champs, and allied with other former Alliance members to protect themselves.

They lost the belts to Spike and Tazz in January 2002, and failed to win the titles back at the Royal Rumble. They competed in a Fatal Four Way at WrestleMania X-8 with the Hardys, Billy & Chuck and the APA, but Billy & Chuck retained the titles. Soon after that, the WWF roster was split and Vince McMahon and Ric Flair held a draft. Flair picked Bubba to compete on Raw, but Vince chose D-von for Smackdown so Flair wouldn't get them both. When D-von confronted McMahon, Vince convinced him to go out and prove himself worthy. D-von became a minister, and then became McMahon's spiritual advisor. When a thief tried to steal D-von's collection money, he hired a big man by the name of Deacon Bautista to guard the money. Vince was interested in his personal assistant Stacy Keibler and gave her a Women's title match against Trish Stratus at Judgment Day. D-von was to be in her corner, but his former partner Bubba Ray was in Trish's corner. After the match, D-von and Bautista attacked Bubba and put him through a table.
